Located in Hastings town centre, Xtrax is the central focal point for marginalised young people aged up to 24, offering support where it’s needed.

Xtrax is committed to providing a service for young people who have complex needs and disadvantaged backgrounds, which have not always been met by mainstream services.

The impact of ten years of funding cuts to Youth Work provision

These young people are being hardest hit by rising inequality and cuts to services, so never has there been a more crucial time for organisations to work together to help them solve the problems that face them.

Our purpose has always been to offer support and a safe place for the young people in our community, working to ensure they are aware that there is somewhere that will always offer them a warm welcome, whatever their needs.

Xtrax offers a relaxed and safe environment to get advice and support on any issue a local young person may be facing such as:

  • Housing
  • Benefits
  • Sourcing appropriate education & training
  • Securing employment
  • Managing personal finances
  • Physical and mental health & wellbeing
  • Sexual health

Problems of homelessness, substance misuse, poor mental health, abuse, family and other relationships, finance issues, bullying and isolation are only too common.

For some young people their chaotic lives make contact with mainstream services very challenging.

So we also offer:

  • Emergency food parcels
  • Contraception and pregnancy tests
  • Free internet access
  • Fun activities including Pool and games nights.

Hastings still has high levels of deprivation, reduced support services and poor mental health. Our purpose hasn’t changed and demand continues to grow but our modes of delivery have and will continue to adapt to the ever changing circumstances and shifting needs of the young people we support.

Xtrax: From humble beginnings

Xtrax is a charity (1174692) was founded in 1994 as a community response to tragedy.  A young street homeless man, unable to access support or help, killed himself.  The close knit and caring Hastings community wanted to ensure there was advice, advocacy and support for marginalised and disaffected young people in Hasting and the wider area.

Xtrax was therefore begun as a drop-in centre for young people aged up to 25 who needed support, advice and kindness.  Over the years, many hundreds of young people have been supported through problems and crises and our drop in sessions have provided young people with the opportunity to get together and socialise in a safe space.
